Safe Sport Policy Changes

This past year, the government of Manitoba passed The Protecting Youth in Sports Act,  which requires all Provincial Sport Organizations and Member Clubs to follow a suite of Safe Sport Policies designed by Sport Manitoba starting April 1, 2026.

What is Safe Sport?

Safe sport refers to creating and maintaining an environment that prioritizes the physical and psychological well-being of all participants. It is a commitment to providing optimal experiences, while actively preventing and addressing all forms of maltreatment, including abuse, harassment, neglect, and discrimination.

There is more information available on our website about the process and the new Policies with links to Sport Manitoba.

One of the major changes is that all maltreatment complaints are mandated to be handled by an independent third party for investigation, determination and potential sanctions. This ensures an impartial, confidential and independent process with respect to allegations of abuse, harassment or discrimination.

Some MWPA Policies will require amendment over the next little while to ensure compliance. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.

The Manitoba Water Polo Association acknowledges that the work we do takes place on the traditional lands and waterways of the Anishinaabeg, Anishininewuk, Dakota Oyate, Denesuline, and Nehethowuk peoples, as well as the National Homeland of the Red River Métis.

As a community, we remain committed to fostering positive and mutually beneficial relationships with Indigenous communities. We also recognize that the privileges and benefits we enjoy as citizens of Canada are rooted in long standing treaties and historical relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Peoples. We are all treaty people and accept our responsibility to honour all relations.
