Minor Officials
Tournaments and games rely on the volunteer power of athletes’ family members. Referees officiate the games, with volunteers performing auxiliary tasks including jobs like Shot Clock Operator, Game Secretary and Penalty Secretary. The players, coaches, clubs and the entire water polo community appreciate the time and effort each volunteer dedicates to making these tournaments a success!

Minor Officials are considered to be part of the team of officials. You are there to assist and support Referees in their duties, but are also required to defer to the Referee’s judgment.
Minor Officials are entitled to the same protection offered to Referees with regards to abuse of an official. Absolutely no physical or verbal abuse towards officials, coaches or MWPA staff will be tolerated. If a Minor Official is abused in any fashion, this abuse shall be reported to the game Referee or the Head Referee or other tournament delegates.
I have signed up to volunteer... now what?
Please dress in a professional manner, which includes a white shirt, white or black shorts or pants and proper footwear. No winter boots are allowed on deck.
You must conduct your role with a degree of impartiality. Please refrain from cheering or providing outside support to the teams in the water (cheer in your heart!).
Please arrive at least ten minutes prior to your shift.
Once you arrive, ensure you have everything you need, that the clocks are working correctly, which includes the buzzer. Communicate any issues with the supervisor or Referee and inform the Referee when you are ready to begin the game.
