The Manitoba Water Polo Association is Hiring!

The MWPA is seeking a Head-Coach for its Summer High-Performance Program

The Head Coach will oversee training of up to two 15U teams and two 17U teams to represent Manitoba at the Canadian Championships from June 30 to July 15, 2025. Training will start May 1 with training taking place at the Winnipeg Winter Club and Pan Am Pool.

Principal job functions:

  • Develop appropriate training programs to help athletes improve and achieve their goals

  • Provide constructive feedback and corrective guidance to athletes, addressing areas for improvement and reinforcing positive achievements

  • Foster a positive and inclusive team culture, cooperation, and mutual respect among athletes

  • Supervise athletes during practices and events, vigilance for potential hazards or injuries and ensuring a safe training environment

  • Communicate e?ectively with athletes and parents/guardians regarding practice schedules, performance expectations, and program updates

  • Work collectively with the Executive Director and provide direction to Assistant Coaches

  • Able to work evenings and weekends and available for out-of-town competition

 

Skills and Attributes:

  • Must be well versed in Canadian Sport for Life: Long Term Athlete Development model (LTAD) and the Athlete Development Matrix 

  • Knowledgable in training strategies and game tactics

  • Be a positive role model for athletes

  • Demonstrate personal integrity and honesty

  • Demonstrate respect for diversity and inclusion with coaching strategies that cater to the unique abilities of each athlete

  • Be flexible and approachable with a positive attitude

  • Strong awareness of self and self-regulation

  • Strong time management skills

  • Able to manage athletes’ behaviour in a competitive context 

  • Strong communication skills

 

Qualifications:

  • NCCP accreditation of Water Polo Canada Competition

  • Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders (RIS)

  • NCCP Making Ethical Decisions

  • NCCP Making Head Way in Sport

  • NCCP Safe Sport 

  • Able to comply with MWPA Screening Policy

 

Desired prior experience:

  • 3 to 5 years coaching experience and/or experience as a head coach

  • A diploma in kinesiology, education or management - or experience therein

 

Compensation:

  • The Head Coach will be paid according to a Pay Schedule set by the MWPA Board of Directors.

  • The MWPA will cover transportation, accommodation, and meal expenses for all Coaches who travel with the Provincial Team.

  • The MWPA may support coach training opportunities. Coaches will need to submit requests to the Executive Director to include purpose, location, cost, and how the training would be applicable to the Provincial Development Program.

The MWPA is also seeking Assistant Coaches

The MWPA is seeking Assistant Coaches for the summer plus attendance at the Canadian Championships.  

 

We are seeking individuals with a solid understanding of water polo rules, strategies, and techniques, who has prior experience playing or coaching Water Polo at the high school level; preference to someone who can coach the utility/driver positions.

 

Principal job functions:

 

  • Collaborate with Head Coach: Work closely with the Head Coach to align with the team’s strategy, goals, and coaching philosophy.

 

  • Assist in Practice Planning and Execution: Help design and run practices that focus on developing players’ technical skills, fitness, and game understanding.

 

  • Skill Development: Provide individual attention to players to improve their skills and understanding of the game.

 

  • Player Evaluations: Help evaluate player performance during practices and games, offering feedback and support for continued development.

 

  • Promote Sportsmanship and Teamwork: Reinforce values of respect, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

 

  • Support Safety Protocols: Assist in ensuring player safety by following all health and safety guidelines during practices and games. 

 

  • Safe Sport: Foster a positive and inclusive team culture, encouraging TrueSportValues, cooperation, and mutual respect among athletes.

 

  • Equipment and Setup: Help with field setup, collecting equipment, and maintaining team gear as needed.

 

  • Game Day Support: Assist the head coach in managing game day operations, including player warm-ups, substitutions, and tactical adjustments.

 

  • Communication: Foster positive relationships with players, coaches, and parents, providing clear communication about team expectations and schedules. Must have the ability to connect with and motivate high school aged athletes.

Qualifications:

 

Coaches must be a minimum of 19 years of age and be a MWPA/Water Polo Canada Member in good standing.

 

All coaches must also have at a minimum:

 

  • NCCP accreditation of WPC Competition Introduction, or working towards same

 

  • Respect in Sport for Leaders (RIS)

 

  • NCCP Making Ethical Decisions 

 

  • NCCP Making Head Way in Sport

 

  • NCCP Safe Sport

 

All coaches must also be screened in accordance with the MWPA Screening Policy.
