Provincial Development Program

The MWPA is bringing back its Provincial Team through the creation of a Provincial Development Program. It will support athletes and coaches to reach their full potential at the highest level of competition. The goal is to identify, train, and develop athletes motivated to represent Manitoba in competitions as "Team Manitoba".

Athletes in the 14U, 16U, 18U and 19U recreation and competitive programs are invited to apply.

The immediate goal is set up the Provincial Training Program from which up to two 15U teams and two 19U teams will be invited to represent Manitoba at the National Provincial Championships from June 30 to July 6, 2025, in Montreal.

Evaluation Camp to take place

March 8 (am) and March 9 (all day)

Questions from Meeting

Are practices co-ed?

Unknown at this time. Waiting for coaching input.

What days of the week will training be?

Waiting for coaching input, however will not conflict with Vortex practices. Once regular season ends, will likely likely use similar days/times as Vortex schedule. Training sessions may also consist of being on your own following a swim set.

Is the Summer Training in June for everyone whether or not make the Provincial Team?

Yes!  This is a development program. It will continue whether or not we have all four teams competing in Montreal.

Have any coaches expressed interest as of yet?

No. The job advertisement was just sent out and closes February 17. Please help spread the word. We have sent it to other PSOs to post, Facebook, our website, Sport MB etc. Link to Job Advertisement Here!

Is there an age cut off for coaches?

There is no age restriction per se, however there is a desired criteria set out in the posting. It is more important that they have Competitive Coach experience and training. NOTE: Competitive Coaching level will be offered as part of RISE in April.

Who is invited to participate?

All members of Manitoba Water Polo have received the information which includes the school league and club members. Vortex members likely have a leg-up as they train more frequently, but it would not prevent someone else from applying.

What is the minimum age allowed? A maximum? The lowest age category is 14U (which means youngest has birth year of 2013). The upper limit is U19 (which means oldest has birth year of 2006). Athletes will in the 12U category will not be eligible (10 and 11 year olds).

With the National Provincial Championships being outdoors what about rain?

They play in the rain. Games are only canceled for lightning.
