Provincial High-Performance Program (Team Manitoba)

The MWPA has brought back its Provincial Team and in 2026 is launching a new Program for Excellence.

The Program for Excellence offers programming to our aspiring young athletes, born in 2008 to 2015, who are on track to become elite athletes and represent Manitoba at the 15U, 17U and 19U Canadian Championships while providing a solid development path to Canada’s National Teams and the international stage.

The Provincial Program for Excellence will start November 1, 2026 and run until July 11, 2027.

All interested athletes must join by October 26, 2026.

The only opportunity to join the program after that date is if the athlete is participating in our school league - and shows real potential in the sport. These athletes will receive an invitation to join by January 1, 2027.

Strength and Conditioning: The Winnipeg Winter Club has a Fitness, Health & Performance Director and dedicated team that will help you make the most of your workouts, offering expert guidance and tailored recommendations to help you get started—or take your training to the next level.

Swim Coaching: Lead by Alpha Swim Club Coaches https://www.alphaswimclub.com/coachingstaff

Specific Positioning/Technical Coaching: Local coaches and/or other guest coaches from outside of Manitoba who specialize in various positions will be invited to lead training.

Milan Radenovic

Milan started playing water polo at age 13 with the Mavericks in Toronto. He played for Team Canada as both a junior and senior, and was Canada’s goalkeeper at the 2017 FINA World Championships in Budapest and the 2019 FINA World League Super Final.

Branko Pekovik, Water Polo West

Born in Serbia, Branko Pekovic began his professional water polo career in 1995 and represented the Yugoslav and Serbian National Teams from 1994 to 2008, playing more than 180 games for Serbia and over 60 games for Kazakhstan.

He became the Head Coach for Water Polo West in 2025 and in 2026, three of his teams placed in the top 3 at the Canadian Championships, earning him Coach the Year from Water Polo Canada.
