Referee Development

Official's Training

MWPA follows Water Polo Canada's Officials Training and Certification Program (OTCP) as its officials’ education and development tool. Officials include both referees and minor officials.

The OTCP consists of three referee levels (as revised in 2023):

  1. Community Sport Referee

  2. Provincial Competition Referee

  3. National Competition Referee

To advance to the next level, one must first be certified in the previous level.

Watch for announcements when the next referee training session will take place!

Referee Development Fund

Did you know that there is funding available to subsidize referee’s costs for attending major national tournaments to gain experience or for out of province education?

The Manitoba Water Polo Association acknowledges that the work we do takes place on the traditional lands and waterways of the Anishinaabeg, Anishininewuk, Dakota Oyate, Denesuline, and Nehethowuk peoples, as well as the National Homeland of the Red River Métis.

As a community, we remain committed to fostering positive and mutually beneficial relationships with Indigenous communities. We also recognize that the privileges and benefits we enjoy as citizens of Canada are rooted in long standing treaties and historical relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Peoples. We are all treaty people and accept our responsibility to honour all relations.
