The MWPA has partnered with the Manitoba Aboriginal Sports and Recreation Council (MASRC) to offer a water polo program for youth 4 - 15 years old.

Whether you're a beginner or experienced, this program is for you! Led by experienced water polo coaches, our sessions provide a supportive environment for skill development.

Water polo is a combination of many sports, like swimming, basketball, soccer, team handball, and wrestling. Many of the skills and strategies those sports use, water polo combines them. Kids as young as 4 or 5 can start water polo. To begin with, this is just like swimming lessons but with a ball and goal thrown in for some extra fun.

Dates: November 7, 14, 21, 28; December 5 and 12, 2025

Times: Beginner Group from 6PM - 7PM

Intermediate Group from 7PM - 8PM

Location: Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex (999 Sargent Ave, Winnipeg, MB)

The only requirement is that participants must be able to swim safely in the deep end-typically this means being able to complete 2-4 continuous laps without stopping.

If you're unsure of your child's swimming ability, please reach out so we can discuss and, if needed, arrange a swim evaluation.

Benefits

  • Children understand how to play in a team, so that different children with different skills can work together to achieve a goal

  • Coordination to pass and catch the ball with one hand

  • Swimming is a core skill. This gives children an option to play a ball sport in the water which helps reinforce skills

  • Swimming is a fundamental requirement for water polo. The better a player can swim the better they will be able to play water polo.

The Manitoba Water Polo Association acknowledges that the work we do takes place on the traditional lands and waterways of the Anishinaabeg, Anishininewuk, Dakota Oyate, Denesuline, and Nehethowuk peoples, as well as the National Homeland of the Red River Métis.

We respect the treaties made here and are grateful to work, live, and play on this land.
