Nominations for the 2024/ 2025 Volunteer of the Year Award are now open!
This award is designed to recognize the contributions and achievements of our incredible volunteers, which includes their unique contributions to improve the water polo community.
​Nomination Process
Criteria
-
The nominee must be a resident of Manitoba and a member of the MWPA in good standing.

Nominations must relate to the 2024/25 season.
-
The nominee must give freely of their time, energy and skills without monetary compensation. Receiving an honorarium does not count as monetary compensation.​
​​
It must be demonstrated that:
-
the nominee’s contributions are leading to positive impacts within the water polo community. Ie: enhancing the enjoyment or development of participants, raising the profile of water polo, and/or bringing honour and respect to the water polo community. Both short and long-term results should be included.
-
the nominee has shown commitment to the development and advancement of water polo.
-
the nominee lives and delivers on MWPA’s values.

Telling the Story

This is your chance to highlight what makes the nominee (or yourself) stand out. Whether you’re nominating yourself or someone else, make sure to tell a compelling story!

Be specific: Describe the nominee’s (or your own) impact, achievements, and contributions to the sport of water polo and water polo community.

Set the scene: Provide context and background about the nominee’s (or your own) efforts.
-
Use examples: Concrete examples help the panel see how the nominee has made a tangible difference.
-
Impact: Discuss the immediate and broader effects of the nominee’s (or your) contributions. How have their (or your) actions influenced participants, a team, the community or the sport as a whole?

The more comprehensive and complete that the nomination information is, the better!
Eligibility
-
Self-nomination: As a volunteer, you can nominate yourself by completing the nomination form.

External nomination: Anyone, including, but not limited to: coaches, athletes, parents/guardians, grandparents or other organizations can submit a nomination.

Deadline
-
Nominations are to be submitted using the online form, together with any supporting documents to office@manitobawaterpolo.com no later than 4:00pm on Thursday, September 18, 2025.

A high-resolution photograph of the nominee must accompany the form submission.
​Selection
-
Finalists will be notified and invited to attend an event where the winner will be announced
Compliance
-
The nominee (or their parent/guardian if the nominee is a minor) must consent to the publication of the information submitted as it may be used by the MWPA for promotional purposes.

If the nomination does not meet the above listed criteria, it will not be accepted.

Late submissions will not be reviewed.

The MWPA reserves the right to verify the validity of nominations and disqualify any nomination which, in the opinion of the MWPA, can be considered objectionable, potentially insulting or inflammatory or generally damaging to the goodwill or reputation of the award, or any nomination that is not compliant with the terms and conditions.

This award is designed to recognize athletic excellence and outstanding achievement.

2023/24 winners

Female Athlete of the Year
This category is open to those who have played in the female category and achieved excellence at the highest level. This athlete will have achieved strong performances in the sporting arena, and outside of competition by demonstrating strong work ethic towards their sport, positive attitude, and teamwork.
Male Athlete of the Year
This category is open to those who have played in the male category and have achieved excellence at the highest level. This athlete will have achieved strong performances in the sporting arena, and outside of competition by demonstrating strong work ethic towards their sport, positive attitude, and teamwork.
​Nomination Process

Criteria

The Nominee must be a resident of Manitoba and a member of the MWPA in good standing.

Nominations must relate to the 2024/25 Season.

Exhibits a high level of commitment to both training and games.
-
Dedicated to their growth which includes targets for the year.
-
Demonstrated understanding of values and respect for the game through a high standard of sportspersonship and fair play both in and out of the pool.
-
Contributes by mentoring, coaching, refereeing or volunteering when required.​

Endorsement: Regardless of who submits (except for if the nomination is submitted by the coach) the coach must endorse the nomination for it to be considered.
